Phytoestrogens are trace biochemicals produced by plants that act like estrogens in cells and bodies. They have structures that are very similar to endogen estradiol derived from plants. Essentially, they are plant hormones. These healthy beneficial chemical compounds naturally occur in plants and have weak estrogenic properties when compared to estrogens that are produced in the human body. Phytoestrogens are not the same as estrogens, although they are similar because of the receptor affinity to bind beta estrogen receptors in the body.
